From MSNBC's latest "oof" to Biden's blob setting us up for World War III, it's a mixed bag of a Saturday morning. Make yourself a cup of java and sit a spell.
My guess on the disappearing headline is that some woke editor was hoping to make it vague enough that their primary audience wouldn’t read the article and also wouldn’t get upset that they didn’t defend a minority immigrant.
Kind of makes you feel bad for Danny Cevallos if his work is getting besmirched by some sod of an editor. Though he very well may have had that poor idea himself. At least his past articles are consistent in terms of exaggerated language in the headlines.
In my never humble opinion, many, if not most of the followers of that site seldom bother to get past the headlines. As, sadly, appears to be the case with most of our online, and print, media today.
Which may be the reason so many headlines are only peripherally related to the content. Perhaps if we simply classify ALL headlines as “clickbait”, they might ....
An, I thought I'd be back sooner. Got together with brother, sister, their SOs at step mom's. Dad had collected coins and stamps and today, nearly seven years after he's been gone, she decided to tell us that Dad had left these to us - coins to be split by me a bro, stamps to sis. Now we're supposed to figure out what to do with them.
Now I have about 75 lbs in coins in boxes in my back seat and bed (spillover - I didn't realize it would be that much) that I have to unload before Dante and I go walking tomorrow morning.
My father-in-law's mother gave him and his siblings a bunch of coins when she passed. My father in law actually went through the whole mess and "valued" each coin with a book so his siblings got their "fair share." I wouldn't recommend that method. It seemed overly complicated. I am forever grateful for my sister, though I think she's too trusting for her own good.
You and Dante have a good walk. It sounds like it's (finally) going to snow here.
Learned much from the Tucker/Greenwald interview. Everyone should watch the entire episode if you want to understand how we got here.
I saw the latest Joe Biden announcement where he said something like you can shut your mouth now I’m speaking (what an a-hole) & then he went on to say that we support Ukraine blah blah blah. Who is we? Obviously the American ppl don’t get a say in the coming WW3. Wasnt it supposed to be congress who approves war??? Oh wait. I forgot. They do whatever they want damn the ppl.
Congress turned "war declaring" powers over to Bush after 9/11 and they've never taken them back.
Biden I'm guessing was always a bit of an a-hole, but now that he has dementia and he's almost out of office, he just doesn't care and there is no filter.
And I'm going to try to watch the Greenwald/Tucker interview. They're two of my favorites, along with Taibbi and Kirn.
“The United States Congress last formally declared war on June 5, 1942, against Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania. Since then, Congress has not formally declared war, but has instead authorized the use of military force by the President. “
On Thanksgiving, one piece I find myself coming back to time and time again is a story Charles Kuralt covered in 1978 of a one family's Thanksgiving experience. It's the quintessence of the spirit of Americana in my eyes.
Everyone's been asking that for some time now. Bowling Alone is almost a quarter of a century old now. Obviously the answer is neither short nor simple.
However, this story comes from a not too distant past (you were around at least), so it doesn't feel unattainable either. I could gush over that report for some time, since it really is beyond brilliant, I truly can't think of a better way to illustrate what Thanksgiving in America is supposed to be about.
But just to reaffirm, yes, the family is a dying institution.
And it is dying for all but seems to have already died for some given this data; “
Black: 63% of Black children live in single-parent families
American Indian or Alaska Native: 50% of American Indian or Alaska Native children live in single-parent families
Latino: 42% of Latino children live in single-parent families
Multiracial: 39% of multiracial children live in single-parent families
White: 24% of White children live in single-parent families
Asian and Pacific Islander: 16% of Asian and Pacific Islander children live in single-parent families”
Interesting too that average iq score by race is the exact opposite order, eg Asians have lowest rate of single family households and highest averages Iq, and so on.
The caveat being here that is also a bit of a negative feedback loop. Disproportionate access to quality education opportunities is also a problem that's not helping either. It's not that genetics don't have an influence in shaping intelligence, but behavioral and environmental factors like being raised in a stable and supportive household are far more critical in most cases.
I liked it also because it reminded me of growing up poor as 9th of 10 kids and various aunts, cousins and friends of brothers all living with us on my father’s bartended pay. 7 of us graduated college and then some; no DEI or Affirmative Action either. The KKK burned a cross at my grandparents house because they were Catholics and Irish ones at that.
If Harris was elected, we certainly would be faced with increased pressure from Russia. Putin is probably happy that the war hawks have been defeated and that a new era of peace and mutual security between our two great nations is now possible.
Of course, since AI has been running DC for 46 months anyway, any response to Russia from the Obama/Harris/Biden regime is already cooked into the algorithm.
The question is whether or not Putin can keep his own warhawks pacified long enough to get Trump in office. The most unreal part of this whole thing is that if the US manages to topple Putin, they will likely only lead to the elevation of an even more old-school Soviet in his place.
Russia wants to be left alone. We forced their hand in the Ukraine and we knew damn well that they would have to defend their interests. Instead we support a comedian who plays the piano with his dick, literally, while his country is destroyed and Zelensky and his banker buddies hide the trillions we sent them and the DOD can’t pass an audit on to whom it went. Best to act like you don’t know where it went too.
Putin is the most effective leader of Russia since what, Khrushchev? Really spells out the history of poor leaders that the Russian people have had to deal with.
That's kind of what I am saying, there's not really any other leader in Russia, since Khrushchev, that you could say was all that great for the Russian people. And that's not to say that Putin's been amazing of course, he hasn't been. Russia has a nominal GDP smaller than Canada (despite over 3x the population) and is now even being overtaken by Brazil. Russia's birth rates are in decline (I man whose isn't) and they are still besieged by alcoholism, which while improving in recent years, is still a major issue. None of this is necessarily flattering of Putin, rather it highlights how terrible many of the other Russian/Soviet leaders were.
I admire your courage for reporting on the ICC arrest warrants and “Wanton killing of civilians is wanton killing of civilians, no matter the excuse. “. Indeed it is wanton, needless and in the tens of thousands of defenseless women and children. To deny it is to be a Denier. The knee jerk criticism to anyone that speaks up is to attack them as “anti-Semite”. Apparently no criticism of Israel is too small to escape being labeled an anti-Semite. The numbers of dead, wounded, homeless, orphaned, imprisoned and tortured is staggering and well over 100,000. The lie that it was necessary because Hamas was using them as human shields is beyond redemption. I condemn Hamas for 7Oct and I condemn Israel for the slaughter and devastation they have done since. It’s not war; it’s slaughter of defenseless women and children. And our corrupt Neocons and backers of it in both parties are complicit in modern day genocide. Sad, tragic and truth.
An excellent question. The answer is clearly no. (I’m answering though I know the question wasn’t aimed at me.) But that’s the problem. I could ask “If you lived on the other side of a fence from land that your people had control of for thousands of years up until about three generations ago, and you were expected to settle for what you considered scraps from the people who usurped it, would you do so?” I’m guessing the answer is also no. While I might disagree with how they’re going about it, I can understand why the Gazans resist, just as I can understand why Israel thinks it’s justified in attacking. But like the Gazans’ methods of resistance, Israel’s actions are just digging a deeper and more bloody hole and increasing the unlikelihood of a resolution that guarantees the country will continue to exist long term.
It's also important to consider the history of the conflict, for which used to be more even-keeled. The problem Palestinians face now is that they no longer have much in terms of allyship beyond Iran, whose funding of Hamas keeps them in power.
The PLO did a lot to alienate Western support and understandably so, but they also did a lot to eliminate Arab support with snafus like Black September. Making new friends is nigh impossible for them with their baggage and current political situation.
As an aside and related to other substacks, when I argue about this topic I am usually banned but not after they get to reply back to me. Kind of annoying that one side gets to put the last word in and then mute you (me) so that others can no longer enjoy a good debate. 😂
4 of my brothers and I served active duty US military. We defended our country. And if my grandma or any other relative was kidnapped, I would not believe killing 50,000 innocent women and children to rescue her would be just or reasonable. I am Catholic and believe in the doctrine of “just” war; and what Israel has done in the last year is not “just” but instead is wholesale slaughter. Sad but true. It cannot be defended as just and needed by Israel to secure itself. Israel has moved from a strategy of Apartheid to one of Genocide. And no, I am not an anti-Semite and indeed I have close relatives who are Jewish.
Assuming that Hamas is a murderous and corrupt gang that has stolen UN funds for decades and decided to organize a flash mob with UNRWA's assistance and that thirteen months ago it planned and committed the worst crime against Israel since Hitler, is it best to simply let the gangs do as they choose or should some barriers be put up to prevent further murders, rapes, and kidnappings?
Your narrative seems to start on 7Oct and ignores the apartheid prison that Israel has been conducting there for decades. Regardless, Israel’s slaughter, wounding, starving, torturing and making homeless over 100,000 women and children is not justified by Hamas’s terrorist attack that killed, wounded and kidnapped less than 2,000 people. Your argument, and the Zionist position is essentially that every Palestinian man, woman and child should be killed. There is no hiding it. Bibi has joined Hitler and Stalin now as great world killers.
Now, let’s stop muddying this substack and agree to disagree. My argument is done.
My guess on the disappearing headline is that some woke editor was hoping to make it vague enough that their primary audience wouldn’t read the article and also wouldn’t get upset that they didn’t defend a minority immigrant.
That is an entirely plausible theory. I frankly don’t get the whole thing.
Kind of makes you feel bad for Danny Cevallos if his work is getting besmirched by some sod of an editor. Though he very well may have had that poor idea himself. At least his past articles are consistent in terms of exaggerated language in the headlines.

Sorry Andy, I just read your headline of “In my never humble opinion” and then got distracted. Shot you a like anyway.
That'll teach me to hire my headline writer from MSNBC!

Would that be "food" - in quotation marks?

Well that sucks guess I wasn’t aware too busy with career at the time
Obvi he doesn’t care these ppl are insane.
Do watch that episode. Getting ready to watch ATW couldn’t get to it yesterday. Matt & Walter❤️
We did fall cleanup on the yard, so I got to listen to both while I was raking and mowing. They are both really good.

That’s beautiful. Thank you for sharing. It could end up in future post.
It does make one wonder, however, what happened to America, not just the black community, but America as a whole.
Everyone's been asking that for some time now. Bowling Alone is almost a quarter of a century old now. Obviously the answer is neither short nor simple.

Agree.
Makes sense

Is that accurate? I was really under the impression that Putin put Russia first and was a huge improvement over everyone else they’ve had for decades.
That's kind of what I am saying, there's not really any other leader in Russia, since Khrushchev, that you could say was all that great for the Russian people. Happy Thanksgiving, Gajewski! And also to the commentators here. You’re a fun, thoughtful and great bunch of cocoanuts.

If your grandmother was one of the kidnapped, would you think it is time to consider "the greater good" and leave her to rot?
An excellent question. The answer is clearly no. (I’m answering though I know the question wasn’t aimed at me.) But that’s the problem.
